We entered space a little over 60 years ago. Along the way, we have developed new technologies and new tools to help us in our everyday lives.
Natural disasters – hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, wildfires, earthquakes, volcanoes – can happen anywhere on our planet. From space, we can observe them wherever they may be and can provide help to the rescue efforts in ways unknown decades ago. This presentation will describe those new capabilities and showcase examples from all over our globe.
SPEAKER:
Dr. Charles (Chuck) Wende has been associated with NASA for over 50 years – 35 as a civil servant and then over 15 as a part-time consultant following his “retirement”. This presentation draws upon the 12 years he spent in the Office of Earth Science at NASA Headquarters. Prior to then, he spent 10 years on the Hubble Space Telescope Project, mostly prior to launch. He moved to Oklahoma in late 2005 to be near his son and his family and to escape the hustle, bustle, and hassle of the D.C. Suburbs.
