ASSISTED LIVING FAQ

What Is Assisted Living?

Assisted living is for residents who require help with routine activities of daily living (ADLs) but do not need cognitive or nursing care. Trained staff are available 24 hours a day to help with meals, dressing, monitoring medications and personal hygiene. There is a licensed nurse on staff at all times.

What Is Assisted Living and When Is the Right Time to Consider It?

Assisted living is designed for individuals who wish to maintain independence but may need a little help with daily living activities. Assistance with dressing, bathing, grooming, medication management and more is generally provided to assisted living residents. If you or your loved one has mobility issues or safety in the home is becoming a concern, it’s time to consider a move to an assisted living community. Residents also enjoy maintenance-free living with various amenities, from scheduled social activities and events to daily meals and weekly housekeeping, with the peace of mind that help is available around the clock for optimal safety.

What Should I Consider When Choosing an Assisted Living Residence?

In assisted living, seniors maintain control and independence while receiving assistance with daily activities such as bathing and dressing. Around-the-clock nursing staff is usually not available, but Concordia does have 24-hour nurse access. Ask for a tour and visit the center during off hours. Sample food, check out the activities schedule, visit with residents and ask about talking to family members. Ask the administrative team about its current survey history. Most locations require private payment, so ask about the cost and consider whether this works with your financial situation.

What Happens if My Needs Change and I Need Additional Care?

While some communities are limited in the scope of care they can offer and might require residents to move if their needs change, Concordia offers access to all levels of care except psychiatric care.
