2014 Community Scholarship Announced
Concordia Life Care Community Scholarship Program Helps 4 Associates in its first Year
As part of Concordia’s commitment to excellence for those they serve, the Northwest Oklahoma City senior retirement community also encourages associates to pursue educational opportunities for excellence in their desired field of study. The Concordia Community Scholarship Program was established in 2013, and 2014 was the first year of awards.
Scholarships are available to Concordia associates wishing to elevate their career in any field. This could include pursuing education in culinary arts, science and technology, medical and nursing fields, and beyond. This program also encourages associates to explore advanced training in their area of expertise.
2014 Career-elevating scholarships were awarded to Concordia associates David Gathaiya, Alma DeOme, Charity Karanja, and Isambi Kofi. Each recipient is pursuing a career in nursing.
“We did benefit 4 associates this year,” said Chief Operating Officer/ Executive Director, Danny Eischen. “But just as essential; we also helped countless Residents and their families, through improved quality of service and care. This is a very powerful program.”
Special thanks to these generous donors, who helped seed the fund; Thrivent Financial for Christians, as well as Concordia Residents, families, board, associates and friends. In 2013, Concordia associates coordinated two silent auctions and a team jersey fundraiser to generate enthusiasm for the program and help establish funds. These initial gifts funded all of the 2014 scholarships mentioned above.
Concordia extends their gratitude to the 2014 Scholarship Committee Members Jerod Buttram, Robert Chu (chair), Gerry Mauck, Paige Mills-Haag, Bert Mobley and Robert Namken.
Nearly $25,000 is needed for the Concordia Community Scholarship Program to fulfill the need for 2015 scholarships. A gift of $100,000-$1,000,000 would allow Concordia to begin an endowment for this program. A gift of $1,000,000 or above, would allow Concordia the remarkable honor of naming this scholarship program after you, into perpetuity.
